There is a scam going around referencing Zelle, a digital money sharing app. Scammers are tricking people into giving them access to their online/mobile banking accounts linked to their Zelle account and authorizing money transfers. This scam begins with a text alerting you to a fictional transfer, asking if you authorized it. These texts are designed to make you panic, so stay calm! Texting any response will trigger a call from a scammer, pretending to be a representative of your financial institution, with the intent to gather sensitive account information. If you ever receive a suspicious text about ANYTHING related to your account, do not respond. Call our Customer Care team at 1-800-339-6573 and we can verify your account status. Please also note that any representative of a reputable financial institution will NEVER ask for your 6-digit authorization code as “confirmation” of your account status. Have a safe and happy holiday season – we’ll continue to keep you up to date on these scams as they develop.
