Kennebunk Savings is donating $200,000 to the new York County Food Hub, a transformative effort to strengthen food access, reduce food waste, and support local families throughout the region.  The significant contribution reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to combating food insecurity in York County. To date in 2026, Kennebunk Savings has donated $1,154,103 to nonprofits operating in York County and Seacoast New Hampshire. “This is a bold opportunity to improve food access in York County, and we are confident that York County Food Hub has the vision, capacity, and community support necessary to make the effort successful,” said Lex Meagher, President & CEO of Kennebunk Savings.

The York County Food Hub will serve as a state-of-the-art, centralized resource for local pantries that will reduce food waste and improve access to nutritious food across the region. More than 50 local food pantries and meal programs will be supported by the hub, which has the capacity to take on large-scale food rescue from farms and grocery stores. It is operating from a 7,500 sq. ft warehouse in Biddeford, which includes 2,000 sq. ft of cold storage allowing it to safely distribute fresh and perishable foods to community partners. “Hunger in York County is solvable with more collaboration and innovation at the food system level,” said Billy Shore, founder of Share our Strength and No Kid Hungry. “That’s what the York County Food Hub will provide and why it is so worthy of investment.”

Half of the $200,000 donation comes from the Kennebunk Savings Foundation, and the other half is drawn from the Foundation’s Huntington Common Charitable Fund, specifically set aside to improve the lives of older adults in York County. As costs continue to rise, older adults in York County living on a fixed income are disproportionately affected by food insecurity.

This commitment reflects the largest grant Kennebunk Savings has made to a nonprofit organization focusing on community food security. “Our regional vision for food security in York County requires investment and committed partners,” said Alex Gramling, president of the food hub. “This significant donation from Kennebunk Savings will fund our countywide solution to strengthen the local food system and help us deliver more and healthier food to pantries, food programs, and our neighbors in need.”
