Kennebunk Savings and Northeast Passage Unite for Northeast Passage Rugby Experience

One unanticipated event can change life as we know it in a split second. For those who are living with disabilities, access to adaptive recreational and competitive sports can provide hope and significantly improve one’s perspective on life. Northeast Passage (NEP) offers a variety of adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation programs to individuals with disabilities, veterans and school systems in New England.  With over 400 pieces of adapted equipment, NEP gives individuals with all abilities the chance to enjoy sports with the same freedom of choice, quality of life, and independence as their non-disabled peers.

Kennebunk Savings is a sponsor of NEP events as well as its Similarity Awareness school program, which provides an integrated opportunity for students to explore the similarities that we all share, regardless of ability, through participation in familiar wheelchair games and discussion. Recently, a group of Kennebunk Savings employees joined in a game of wheelchair rugby and bravely took on the Northeast Passage Wildcats quad rugby team.

According to Rich Goodenough, Vice President and Middle Market Lender for Kennebunk Savings, “Not only was it an incredibly fun and challenging game, the experience was inspiring. The Wildcats shared their stories with us and talked about how wheelchair rugby, and other activities made possible by NEP, provides them with a sense of camaraderie, confidence and competition that they lost after their injuries.”
