KENNEBUNK, Maine – Over 100 non-profits in and around York County Maine depend on Kennebunk Savings Bank employees who volunteer to help them do their valuable work. In roles as various as teacher’s aides, literacy volunteers, board members, Sunday School teachers and food pantry workers, Kennebunk Savings’ staff members have provided close to 7,000** hours to non-profits and charitable organizations in the area -- most of those hours outside of regular office hours. This year Kennebunk Savings showed its appreciation to its staff members by providing over $6,000 in matching grants to non-profits named by the employees. The program, known as the Volunteer Investment Program (VIP) has been a part of Kennebunk Savings Bank’s Community Investment Program for over 5 years.
According to Kendall E. Reed, President and CEO of Kennebunk Savings Bank, “Many non-profit organizations know us for our financial contributions in York County through the Community Investment Program. But with the addition of the ‘VIP’ we are able to encourage our employees to volunteer by contributing on their behalf, while at the same time providing a token of our appreciation to our employees’ favorite charities. Our commitment to the communities we serve doesn’t end with the work day, our employees are extremely dedicated to the communities they live in and the amount of time they volunteer for those organizations shows that.”
This year’s unsolicited VIP gifts will be sent to over 60 non-profit and charitable organizations. Over the last 13 years, the bank has contributed 10% of its annual earnings back to the non-profit community through the Community Investment Program, resulting in well over $5 million directed to the work of York County charities.
**Just for reference – With a 40 hour work week for 52 weeks of the year, the number of hours spent at a job equals 2,080 hours.
