OGUNQUIT - In January, the Ogunquit Village School PTA decided to
organize a much-needed facelift for the Ogunquit Village School
Playground. The current equipment on the playground hadn’t been
upgraded since the early 80s and the grounds did not drain properly,
causing the basketball court to flood every time it rained. These
problems prompted the committee to research and create a plan for a
new playground. Now, with a $2,500 challenge grant from the Kennebunk
Savings Bank Foundation, they are even closer to their goal.
The playground committee, comprised of Nancy O’Brien, Amy Forbes,
Linda Giabamais, Erin Peters, Karen Perkins-Audet, Sarah Proach and
Deb Dolaf, began fundraising in January and contacted the Kennebunk
Savings Bank Foundation for help in leveraging funds. The foundation
pledged a dollar for dollar match up to $2,500 and the group was able
to raise those funds within a month.
"The support from the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation and the
local community has been overwhelming," said playground committee
chair, Nancy O’Brien. "The planning for this playground has not
been easy but all our hard work will certainly pay off in the long run
when we have a newer, safer and more fun playground for the whole
community to enjoy!"
While they still need to raise the final $25,000 to meet their
fundraising goal of $65,000, they plan on starting some playground
projects in the beginning of August including taking care of the
critical drainage issues, and installing some big playground toys and
a new full court basketball court.
"The Ogunquit Village School Playground committee is a truly
exceptional group," noted Maureen St. John, Kennebunk Savings
Bank Ogunquit Manager. "This project is extremely organized,
well-thought out, and very much needed by our community."
The committee needs volunteers to help put together some of the new
playground equipment on August 9, 10, and 11. For information

Playground fund, call Nancy O’Brien at 646-6569.
